ADD & ADHD Evaluation and Care
At TLC Pediatrics of Amarillo, we understand how challenging it can be for families when a child struggles with focus, attention, or behavior. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD) are among the most common neurodevelopmental conditions in children. They can affect school performance, self-esteem, and daily family life—but with the right support, children with ADHD can thrive.
What Are ADD and ADHD?
ADHD is a condition that affects a child’s ability to regulate attention, impulse control, and activity level. It is typically categorized into three types:
- Inattentive type (formerly called ADD): Trouble staying focused, difficulty following instructions, forgetfulness.
- Hyperactive-impulsive type: Excessive energy, difficulty sitting still, impulsive actions.
- Combined type: A mix of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive behaviors.
Signs Parents May Notice

- Difficulty sitting still in school or at home
- Impulsive actions, interrupting others, or difficulty waiting their turn
- Struggles with organization, time management, or following directions
- Emotional outbursts or frustration over small challenges
Our Approach at TLC Pediatrics
We follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for diagnosing and treating ADHD. Our care includes:
- Comprehensive evaluation: This may include parent and teacher questionnaires, developmental history, and behavior assessments.
- Collaboration with schools and specialists: We partner with teachers, counselors, and other professionals to support your child’s learning and social development.
- Personalized treatment plans: Treatment may include behavioral strategies, therapy, parent coaching, and medication when appropriate.
- Ongoing support: Because ADHD is a chronic condition, regular follow-up visits help us monitor progress, adjust treatment, and celebrate successes.
